December round up

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all was quiet in the houses around Easingwold.  The big man and his team of reindeer had only just visited, evidence of half eaten mince pies, carrot tops and boot prints by the side of many a fireplace.  A strange but familiar sound was on the horizon.  Trudge, trudge, trudge, trudge… through the snow (use your imagination!).  Surely not?  The most eager of children awoke to the sound and sight of a blue and green clad runner (not The Grinch steeling the town’s lights before you ask), taking full advantage of the quiet streets, burning calories and justifying to themselves their Christmas dinner and all the trimmings that would follow later that day.  Now, it’s a fairly unlikely scenario, but I can guarantee that at least one Easingwold Running Club member will be out there before the rest of us wake, early on the 25th.  We’ll just have to wait and see who that is.  The only clue I can give you… it won’t be me!

OK, so running on Christmas Day might be a little off the charts for us normal folk, or is it?  Your very own Parkrun in Millfield is on this coming Christmas Day.  A 9am start, so you can be back in time to get the dinner on!  Easingwold Running Club takes a bit of time off over the Christmas week, but there is a bumper crop of Parkrun events to get stuck into.  Whether you fancy giving it a go for the first time, fancy meeting up with friends and family for fresh air and exercise or you’re a seasoned participant, between the 21st Dec and Jan 4th, you have 5 to choose from! 21st, 25th, 28th, 1st and 4th.  Check out www.parkrun.org.uk/millfield to see what’s going on.

Easingwold Running Club’s first club night is back on January 2nd.  Anyone fancy dipping their toes in will be more than welcome and there will be 5 different groups, catering for whatever level you may be at.  First timer or hardened pro – slowly does it or super-fast, it’s all there.  See www.easingwoldrunningclub.co.uk for more details.  Another option available for those starting out is our now well established Couch 2 5k programme, starting in the park in Millfield at 10am on January 4th.  Keep an eye out for communications through the club website or on Facebook.  This is an 8 week programme, and for those who wish to partake, a 5k graduation at Millfield Parkrun the week after.

So, it’s with this that we wish you a happy Christmas and New Year from ERC.  Wherever you’ll be, whatever you’re doing, whoever you’re with, we hope you all have an enjoyable time and we look forward to seeing you soon.  New pair of running shoes for Christmas?
